Jonathan
Brown joined Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz &
Associates as a Senior Researcher in 2005 after a four-year stint as a
Southern California-based political consultant, working on behalf of
candidates, ballot measures, independent expenditures and public finance
measures, as well as providing political counsel to corporate
interests. He directed numerous successful campaigns including those
of Teresa “Tita” Smith, who was the first Democrat elected to the Orange
City Council in more than two decades and Mike Gin, an openly gay
Republican who was elected Mayor of Redondo Beach over two incumbent
council members in a landslide.
Since joining FM3, Mr. Brown has worked on a wide variety of projects, with
particular emphasis on candidate campaigns. He has worked on numerous
campaigns within the state of California and
nationwide, including Indiana ,
Wisconsin for Congress and
State Legislature. In low-turnout special elections, Mr. Brown has
worked on successful campaigns for City Councils in Los
Angeles and San Diego
and for the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of
Education.
Mr. Brown has also played a significant role in the firm’s public finance
projects, working for clients pursuing library bonds in the Cities of
Diamond Bar and Monrovia, a potential funding measure for the Maricopa
County (AZ) Arts Commission and school bonds for the Grant Joint Union
School District, the Walnut Valley Unified School District and the San
Diego Community College District.
His experience polling for ballot measures includes gaming issues in Montana
and Wisconsin and
land use issues in North Carolina ,
as well as numerous California statewide
measures on a variety of topics.
Prior to moving to California, Mr. Brown worked on
election campaigns around the country serving as a campaign manager or
press secretary to candidates in eight states. Most notably, he
helped elect challenger Nick Lampson in Texas
’ Ninth Congressional District in 1996 in one of that year’s
most watched campaigns. He also served as Communications Director in
Lampson’s Congressional office. Mr. Brown also has worked for the
Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and as a private
communications consultant.
